J Crossley Ltd had built 6 mills on the Dean Clough complex, with factories at Kidderminster and warehouses in London and Manchester.  The firm had also financed beautiful buildings and parks in Halifax: a nod to John’s mother’s declaration that ‘If the Lord does bless us in this place, the poor will have a taste of it’.
